[Explainer] Dasher Shop Delivery Tracking

SMS to Customers​

DoorDash sends SMS messages with updates on the progress of a delivery to help the person receiving that delivery (the dropoff_contact) keep track of the delivery and prepare for its arrival. You can customize these messages on the Developer Portal: whether they are sent at all, and the precise text that is sent.

In Developer Portal, if you want to customize the SMS based on the delivery metadata like the name of the store or the name of the Dasher, type an opening curly bracket. You will be presented with a list of metadata placeholders. You will be able to preview the text message.

Dasher ConfirmedWhen the dasher confirms their assignment to the delivery order.
Dasher Dropped Off ContactlessWhen the dasher completes a contactless dropoff at the customer's location
Dasher Dropped Off Hand It To MeWhen the dasher completes a non-contactless delivery at the customer's location.
Dasher Picked Up ContactlessWhen the dasher checks-out from the store for a contactless delivery
Dasher Pickup Hand It To MeWhen the dasher checks-out from the store for a non-contactless delivery
Customer UnavailableWhen the dasher attempts delivery but the customer is unavailable to receive it.
Delivery CancelledWhen the delivery order is cancelled.

Dasher Adds New Item For CustomerWhen the dasher adds a new item to the order on behalf of the customer.
PIN Code RequiredWhen a PIN code is required for the customer to receive the delivery.
Dasher Arrived At StoreWhen the dasher arrives at the store to begin shopping for items.

Webhooks enable near-real-time information flow from DoorDash and our Dashers to your application and your customers. Subscribe to webhooks here. With webhooks, you can enable real-time scenarios like a map view showing your customers how far away their Dasher is, push notifications telling your customers the latest status of their order, and much more.

Similar to SMS text messages, webhooks are triggered at pre-defined events. Here are a list of webhooks you should expect to receive during a Dasher Shop order

DASHER_CONFIRMED_RETURN_ARRIVALThe Dasher has arrived at the return location for the order.
DASHER_DROPPED_OFF_RETURNThe Dasher has successfully returned the order to the specified return location.
DELIVERY_PENDING_RETURNThe order is pending return and has not yet been picked up for return.

With the exception of the DASHER_COMPLETED_SHOPPING and DASHER_COMPLETED_STAGING events, all webhooks follow the same format.
