Middleware Partners vs Merchants

Limited access

Marketplace APIs are not yet generally available. Please record interest in early access here.

When getting ready to develop on Marketplace, the first thing to determine is whether you're a middleware partner or a merchant.

Merchants are the restaurants, retailers, or other businesses that sell through DoorDash. In some cases, merchants may set up their integration directly with DoorDash, but this is less common.

Middleware partners are the technology providers鈥攕uch as POS systems or order management platforms鈥攖hat connect multiple merchants to DoorDash. Middleware partners build and maintain the technical integration, so that merchants can manage menus, orders, and availability within the systems they already use.

Most merchants choose to work through a middleware partner rather than building a direct integration, since it provides them with:

  • Faster onboarding and setup
  • Centralized management of their stores and menus
  • Access to proven, certified integrations maintained by trusted partners
